The
Bruins
do not
match
up well
with
the
Ducks
on paper...not
even
close.
And
the
game
is in
the
confines
of Autzen
Stadium.
If teams
wish
to have
a chance
against
Oregon,
they
have
to stop
this
running
Quack
Attack
with
Heisman
Hopeful
LaMichael
James
coming
out
of the
backfield.
This
is the
nation's
No.
1 ranked
offense.
While
UCLA
has
some
excellent
individual
players
on defense,
they
have
struggled
mightily
against
the
run.
Outside
linebacker
Akeem
Ayers
is the
only
returning
starter
on this
front
seven
and
it has
shown.
The
Ducks
also
play
at a
turbo-charged
pace,
and
that
figures
to be
a challenge
for
UCLA,
which
has
had
trouble
subbing
players
in and
out.
Quarterback
Darron
Thomas
is expected
to return
after
suffering
a slight
should
injury
October
9. The
game
plan
for
head
coach
Rick
Neuheisel
and
his
Bruins
has
to be
to get
their
own
ground
game
going
out
of the
Pistol
formation
that
has
been
implemented
this
season
and
eat
up the
clock.
Running
back
Johnathan
Franklin
has
emerged
as one
of the
better
Pac
Ten
rushers
this
season
but
the
lagging
passing
game
with
question
marks
at quarterback
make
this
offense
a little
too
one-dimensional.
Oregon
will
counter
on defense
with
an extremely
quick
bunch
a little
on the
lighter
side.
Expect
them
to force
UCLA
to prove
they
can
win
a game
passing
the
football
by crowding
the
box.
UCLA
just
isn't
equipped
to go
up and
down
the
field
on a
regular
basis
and
keep
pace.
This
one
has
the
potential
to get
really
ugly
in Eugene
as the
Ducks
try
to prove
in the
national
spotlight
that
they
are
deserving
of that
No.
1 ranking.

Be on
the
look
out
for
the
Spartans
as they
are
off
to a
7-0
start,
the
best
in East
Lansing
since
the
great
team
of 1966.
They
have
three
better-than-average
road
tests
left
on the
schedule,
which
are
all
quite
winnable.
They
avoid
having
to play
Ohio
State
making
this
team
more
than
capable
of finishing
the
season
undefeated.
The
ground
game
has
been
good.
Even
when
it gets
held
in check
as Illinois
managed
to do
last
week,
they
turn
to quarterback
Kirk
Cousins
who
continues
to get
better
while
outperforming
the
opposing
team's
quarterback.
What
really
has
put
MSU
into
this
lofty
spot
has
been
a secondary
that
has
created
12 interceptions.
They
only
collected
six
total
all
of last
season.
They
did
lose
senior
standout
Chris
L. Rucker
after
an off-the-field
altercation
got
him
suspended
but
cornerback
Johnny
Adams
and
free
safety
Trenton
Robinson
have
really
taken
up the
slack.
They
get
tested
this
week
as Northwestern
quarterback
Dan
Persa
has
completed
a national-best
78 percent
of his
throws.
He is
also
the
team's
leading
rusher
with
295
yards.
That's
not
good
for
the
Wildcats
when
measuring
their
rushing
prowess.
The
numbers
on defense
are
descent
for
Northwestern
against
sub
par
competition.
Big
Ten
play
the
last
two
weeks
has
not
resulted
in the
same
winnable
measures.
They
have
to figure
out
how
Illinois
was
able
to slow
down
this
Spartan
rushing
attack
and
they
need
to win
the
turnover
batter.
Those
are
two
categories
Michigan
State
rarely
losses.
Northwestern
gets
a real
good
taste
of what
true
competition
looks
like
this
week.
Up until
now
it has
been
horrible,
which
explains
the
6-1
start.
This
Saturday
is a
wake
up call
at Ryan
Field.

Quarterback
Joshua
Nesbitt
is 44
yards
shy
of breaking
the
ACC
record
for
career
rushing
yards
by a
quarterback,
held
by Clemson's
Woodrow
Dantzler.
He breaks
it this
week
in Dantzler's
own
back
yard.
For
the
second
straight
week
Clemson
still
is playing
with
their
backs
against
the
wall.
They
were
in the
same
position
last
week
after
losing
three
straight
games
and
came
out
defending
the
home
turf
by beating
Maryland.
This
is an
extremely
important
game
if either
team
wishes
to stay
in the
hunt
for
an ACC
Championship
Game
slot.
Aside
from
Nesbitt
behind
center,
Tech
still
relies
heavily
on running
back
Anthony
Allen
to make
this
triple-option
run.
This
is the
nation's
No.
2 ranked
rushing
attack.
Per
usual
it's
also
the
nation's
second
worst
passing
attack.
The
defense
has
improved
immensely
since
Labor
Day
weekend
and
that
gives
the
Yellow
Jackets
a good
chance
at winning
in Death
Valley.
Clemson's
rushing
attack
seemed
impressive
early
in the
season,
but
the
Tigers'
productivity
on the
ground
has
decreased
every
week.
Quarterback
Kyle
Parker
is also
struggling
to complete
passes
which
is a
bad
combination
for
any
offense.
What
has
kept
Clemson
alive
in the
ACC
race
has
been
solid
special
teams
play
and
pretty
good
defense
when
they
need
it.
Defensive
end
Da'Quan
Bowers
has
become
a one-man
wrecking
crew,
which
makes
the
job
much
easier
for
this
secondary.
Tech
has
beaten
Clemson
four
straight
times,
including
twice
a year
ago.
Revenge
and
home
field
is what
keeps
the
Tigers
in this
extremely
tight
affair.
Close
but
no cigar.

challenged
his

better
last

as No.
1 ranked
Ohio
State
came
to town.
The
Buckeyes
had
not
allowed
a 100-yard
rusher
all
season.
The
unit,
with
two
All-American
candidates
in seniors
Gabe
Carimi
and
John
Moffitt,
responded
opening
holes
for
big
240-pound
John
Clay
and
speedy
James
White
to pile
up 184
yards.
Quarterback
Scott
Tolzien
continues
to improve
his
magnificent
efficiency.
With
receiver
Nick
Toon
back
to health
this
offense
has
potential
to do
some
damage.
Hold
on;
let's
see
if they
can
produce
two
weeks
in a
row.
Iowa
is the
Big
Ten's
top
ranked
rushing
defense.
Covering
the
pass
has
been
another
issue,
as Iowa
has
looked
lost
at times
trying
to cover
receivers.
Look
for
Wisconsin
to try
and
soften
up this
Hawkeye
front
with
the
arm
of Tolzien.
When
Iowa
has
the
ball,
quarterback
Ricky
Stanzi
is a
duplication
of his
counterpart
Tolzien...a
very
efficient
senior
who
can
make
plays
with
his
arm
when
asked
to do
so.
Receiver
Derrell
Johnson-Koulianos
is now
the
school's
career
leader
in receiving
yardage.
Adam
Robinson
can
do some
damage
out
of the
backfield
as Wisconsin
has
had
trouble
stopping
the
ground
game
at times.
Many
of these
unit
comparisons
are
equal
in ability.
Wisconsin
has
a better
offensive
line
and
Iowa
has
a better
defensive
front.
All
this
adds
up to
one
heckuva
game
with
the
hometown
Hawkeyes
looking
to get
back
on the
map.
They
have
been
looking
forward
to a
game
of this
magnitude
and
it’s
in their
own
back
yard.
History
has
shown
they
should
respond
quite
well.

The

coming
off
a very
disappointing
home
loss
to Texas
after
committing
five
fumbles,
ten
penalties
and
numerous
dropped
passes,
many
at critical
junctures.
Redshirt
freshman
quarterback
Taylor
Martinez,
who
set
a school
record
for
rushing
by a
quarterback
the
previous
week,
was
held
to just
21 yards
on 13
carries
and
was
even
benched
in the
second
half
in favor
of senior
Zac
Lee.
Martinez
is still
the
starter
and
this
offense
will
likely
be doing
some
serious
soul
searching
this
week
in preparation
for
an Oklahoma
State
team
that
comes
in with
an unblemished
record.
This
one
won't
be in
the
comfortable
confines
of Lincoln
though.
The
Cowboys
actually
play
some
pretty
good
run
defense.
It's
the
secondary
that
has
problems.
This
is not
a bad
combination
for
matching
up with
the
run-oriented
Huskers.
The
great
battle
to watch
will
be when
an incredible
Blackshirt
Nebraska
defense
squares
up against
the
nation's
No.
2 ranked
offense.
Quarterback
Brandon
Weeden
has
picked
up this
Coach
Gundy
offense
and
has
begun
to take
off.
This
offensive
system
has
generated
some
great
players
and
2010
is no
exception.
Running
back
Kendall
Hunter
and
receiver
Justin
Blackmon
are
potential
All-Americans
at this
point.
Weeden
won't
be able
to throw
against
this
secondary,
which
is the
top
ranked
pass
coverage
team
in the
country.
While
most
would
believe
this
game
has
potential
to be
a high
scoring
affair,
don't
be surprised
if it
is not.
OSU
has
not
seen
a defense
half
this
good
yet.
Folks
in Stillwater
should
be primed.
This
is a
battle
royal
worth
watching.
Flip
a coin
when
trying
to decipher
the
winner.
Another
turnover-marred
game
by Nebraska
won't
get
it done.

This
is a
pure
battle
for
first
place
in the
SEC
West.
Who
would
have
thought
this
would
be the
case
back
in August?
Not
many.
While
both
teams
were
projected
to be
Top
25 material,
hardly
anyone
thought
they
would
be undefeated
at this
point.
These
teams
are
almost
complete
opposites.
Auburn
excels
with
the
ball
and
LSU
excels
playing
defense.
Big
6'6
Auburn
quarterback
Cameron
Newton
is now
the
leader
on some
mid-season
Heisman
ballots.
The
quarterback
duo
of Jarrett
Lee
and
Jordan
Jefferson
for
LSU
is one
of the
worst
in all
the
land.
Several
factors
give
Auburn
a definitive
advantage
in this
match
up other
than
home
field.
Auburn
actually
plays
some
pretty
stout
run
defense.
That
is really
the
only
bread-and-butter
for
LSU
when
they
have
the
ball...handing
the
rock
off
to running
back
Stevan
Ridley.
What
hurts
Auburn's
defensive
numbers
is the
secondary,
but
that
should
not
be a
problem
this
week.
Both
of these
teams
are
winning
by the
hair
of their
chinny-chin-chins.
Something
has
to give.
Auburn
keeps
on proving
they
are
the
best
team
in Alabama,
at least
in the
current
standings.
Not
as many
points
this
week
however
for
the
War
Eagles.

Alabama
35 Tennessee
14
One
of the
SEC's
best
rivalries
won't
be getting
as much
attention
as it
typically
gets
because
of the
Volunteers'
woes.
In the
mean
time,
Alabama
has
not
allowed
a 100-yard
rusher
since
the
2007
season,
a span
that
goes
41 games.
An injury-caused
revolving
door
in the
Tennessee
offensive
line
has
kept
this
unit
from
finding
the
consistency
it needs.
It hasn't
been
able
to run
the
ball
in every
game
and
the
quarterbacks
have
been
getting
sacked
nearly
four
times
per
game.
With
the
Crimson
Tide
coming
to town,
that's
not
good
news.
While
Alabama
has
shown
a few
holes
defensively
including
sack
production,
they
are
still
the
most
feared
in the
SEC.
Those
numbers
probably
get
boosted
this
week.
Vols
quarterback
Matt
Simms
has
to make
much
smarter
decisions
or he
likely
ends
up on
the
bench
in favor
of freshman
Tyler
Bray.
For
this
offense
to stand
a remote
chance
tailback
Tauren
Poole
needs
to have
the
game
of his
life.
Don't
expect
as much
(see
stat
listed
above).
The
Tide
has
been
a middle-of-the-pack
type
of offense
lately.
Quarterback
Greg
McElroy
plays
smart
but
doesn't
possess
the
same
arm
as some
of his
conference
brothers
behind
center.
This
is the
Ingram/Richardson
power
game
show
with
Julio
Jones
being
held
in check
while
battling
through
a nagging
injury.
Receiver
Marquis
Maze
has
being
doing
the
receiving
damage
and
has
emerged
as one
of the
SEC's
top
punt
returners.
The
Tennessee
defense
has
done
a decent
job
until
later
in the
game
when
their
depth
issues
start
to show.
Alabama
can
wear
a team
down.
No one
area
exists
where
Tennessee
has
an edge.
It's
a longtime
rivalry
game
and
Alabama
players,
coaches
and
fans
know
this
all
too
well.
Don't
look
for
a let
down...look
for
a beat
down.

The
Tar
Heels
go into
this
game
having
won
their
last
four
games
and
coach
Butch
Davis
is 4-0
against
his
former
assistant
Randy
Shannon.
Both
of these
teams
have
a tremendous
secondary
and
this
should
make
life
difficult
for
both
quarterbacks
on Saturday.
UNC
has
registered
11 interceptions
on the
year
and
Miami's
Jacory
Harris
has
already
thrown
nine.
While
everyone
keeps
waiting
for
Harris
to shake
the
turnover
bug,
it's
not
likely
to happen
this
week
and
that
could
play
a major
factor.
The
better
quarterback
is surprisingly
T.J.
Yates.
The
senior
has
produced
a fabulous
season
to date
with
11 touchdowns
passes
to only
one
interception
and
he leads
the
ACC
in completion
percentage.
This
is what
has
kept
the
wheels
from
coming
off
the
Carolina
wagon
after
16 players
were
placed
in NCAA
limbo
to start
2010.
Out
of those,
only
four
players
remain
undetermined
so far
as to
their
eligibility.
The
bigger
problem
for
Yates
is that
his
favorite
target,
tight
end
Zack
Pianalto
has
been
lost
for
the
season
with
a leg
injury.
The
Miami
secondary
boasts
12 interceptions.
Carolina
won't
run
the
ball
versus
this
front
and
the
Hurricane
secondary
can
make
you
pay
for
being
one-dimensional.
Another
area
where
Miami
has
an advantage
is running
with
the
ball
behind
the
skills
of running
back
Damien
Berry
who
is averaging
160
yards
per
game.
With
so many
starters
missing
from
the
Tar
Heels
defensive
front
seven,
ground
success
here
should
open
the
door
for
prime
pass
catcher
Leonard
Hankerson.
Hey,
Miami
wins
this
game
and
they
move
to 3-1
in the
conference,
their
best
start
since
2005.
The
loser
falls
way
back
in the
Coastal
Division
chase.
Miami
gets
its
revenge
on Coach
Davis
for
once.
Only
another
multiple
interception
game
by Harris
will
spoil
the
Hurricane
outcome
and
that
is quite
possible

How
big
is this
game?
ESPN
GameDay
will
be in
Columbia
for
the
very
first
time
and
for
the
third
weekend
in a
row,
fans
across
the
landscape
are
hoping
to see
the
No.
1 ranked
team
in the
country
falter
yet
again.
The
Sooners
sit
atop
the
current
BCS
standings
that
were
just
released.
Oklahoma
has
a five-headed
monster
at running
back.
However,
DeMarco
Murray
is about
to rewrite
most
of the
school's
record
books
in over
eight
different
categories
including
the
984
yards
he needs
to break
the
all-time
rushing
record
by Billy
Sims.
Under
the
direction
of quarterback
Landry
Jones
this
receiving
crew
with
All-American
Ryan
Broyles
is confident
and
the
NASCAR
fast-paced,
no-huddle
offense
just
ripped
Iowa
State
last
week
for
40 first
downs
and
700
yards.
The
good
news
for
Missouri
is that
star
defensive
end
Aldon
Smith
has
been
cleared
to play
this
week
after
suffering
a fractured
fibula
in the
third
game.
Despite
Smith's
absence,
the
Tiger
defense
has
been
hot,
especially
the
last
two
weeks.
The
big
problem
is that
none
of these
Tigers
have
seen
what's
about
to enter
the
field
offensively
and
that
is a
concern.
Bend,
but
don't
break.
Oklahoma's
offense
will
get
its
yards,
but
Missouri,
and
its
top-ranked
red
zone
defense,
must
hold
the
Sooners
to field
goals
as often
as it
can.
When
Missouri
has
the
ball,
quarterback
Blaine
Gabbert,
who
has
quietly
been
meeting
his
lofty
expectations
by putting
together
an excellent
campaign,
will
be playing
in the
biggest
game
of his
college
career,
and
he's
coming
off
his
best
passing
game
of the
year.
The
running
game
just
isn't
there
and
that
is a
big
advantage
for
Sooner
defensive
linemen
like
Jeremy
Beal
who
have
been
wreaking
havoc
in opponent's
backfields.
This
game
could
get
very
interesting
if Mizzou
can
win
the
turnover
battle
as they
have
been
doing.
The
pressure
is on
both
teams,
a place
Oklahoma
has
already
been.
OU has
had
a few
close
calls,
but
they
have
gotten
much
better
the
last
three
weeks.

TCU
41 Air
Force
14
Air
Force,
we have
a problem.
The
Falcons
are
0-12
all
time
against
top
five
teams
such
as where
TCU
is currently
ranked.
Air
Force
also
suffered
two
big
blows
last
week
on offense
as fullback
Jared
Tew
is out
with
a broken
fibula
and
receiver
Zack
Kauth
is out
with
an ankle
injury
making
the
receiving
unit
dangerously
thin.
There
are
no deep
threats
for
stretching
the
field.
The
Falcons
can't
avoid
giving
the
ball
to the
fullback
in the
triple-option
attack,
so it
will
be on
replacement
Nathan
Walker
to make
some
things
happen.
They
will
face
a defense
that
has
not
allowed
a touchdown
in three-straight
games.
Yikes.
The
Frogs
are
every
bit
as good
on defense
as they've
ever
been
under
head
coach
Gary
Patterson,
and
it's
from
an across-the-roster
approach
where
everyone
is producing.
The
status
is not
much
different
on the
offensive
side
for
TCU
with
senior
Andy
Dalton
re-emerging
as one
of the
nation's
elite
college
quarterbacks.
However,
TCU
has
been
remarkably
balanced
over
the
past
three
seasons
and
will
continue
handing
off
to Ed
Wesley,
whose
95 rushing
yards
per
game
still
become
opposing
defensive
coordinators
No.
1 concern.
Tackling
has
been
an issue
for
Air
Force,
especially
in the
secondary
and
the
pass
rush
has
disappeared.
If the
Falcons
cannot
locate
an answer
this
week
they
are
in Texas
style
trouble.
And
keep
this
in mind...Air
Force
played
TCU
tough
last
year
in a
three-point
loss
on a
very
cold
and
miserable
day
in Colorado
Springs.
The
Frogs
are
now
starting
to acknowledge
style
points
are
a necessity
if they
want
to move
up in
the
polls,
so if
there
is any
chance
to put
away
the
Falcons
early
and
keep
piling
it on,
TCU
will
absolutely
go for
it.
Smells
like
hammer
time
big
time
in Fort
Worth.
