The
Yellow
Jackets
to no
surprise
lead
the
ACC
in rushing.
Senior
quarterback
Josh
Nesbitt
and
running
back
Anthony
Allen
continue
to push
the
cart
and
rank
among
the
conference's
top
five
runners.
Forget
about
the
horrible
passing
attack.
This
is the
triple-option
offense
but
even
when
GT has
attempted
to air
it out,
the
receivers
have
not
offered
any
help.
The
GT offensive
line
is coming
off
a loss
to Clemson
where
they
were
completely
manhandled.
Linebackers
Brad
Jefferson
and
Julian
Burnett
have
played
well
on the
defensive
side,
but
opponents
are
having
success
pounding
the
ball
up the
middle
while
the
secondary
is short
on playmakers.
This
is a
match
up of
the
conference's
top
two
rushing
teams.
But
the
Hokies
are
also
getting
it done
through
the
air
with
quarterback
Tyrod
Taylor
who
is the
current
favorite
for
ACC
Player
of The
Year
honors.
VT has
all
of the
running
back
available
including
a healthy
Ryan
Williams.
The
red-hot
Hokies
are
out
to avenge
last
season's
loss
to GT.
Lane
Stadium
will
always
be rocking
for
Thursday
night
games.
Despite
the
cold
temperatures,
the
Hokies
are
a big
favorite.
For
GT to
keep
this
close,
they
need
to avoid
an early
game
meltdown
where
they
get
behind
quick.
Just
keep
those
chains
moving.
The
Yellow
Jackets
just
don't
have
enough
defense.

The
reason
for
the
big
turnaround
at Maryland
has
been
redshirt
freshman
quarterback
Danny
O'Brien
and
a super
soft
early
season
schedule.
O'Brien
picked
up his
third
ACC
Rookie
of The
Week
honors
for
his
four
touchdown
passes
against
Wake
Forest.
That's
as many
Rookie
of the
Week
titles
as the
school
had
over
the
previous
seven
seasons
combined.
He has
done
a great
job
of distributing
the
football
as ten
different
receivers
have
caught
touchdown
passes.
The
defense
has
been
very
balanced,
stuffing
the
run
and
getting
excellent
play
out
of the
secondary
with
Kenny
Tate
and
Antwine
Perez.
Maryland
is fifth
in the
country
in turnover
margin,
but
Miami
is not
far
behind.
Whoever
wins
the
turnover
battle
probably
wins
the
game.
The
Miami
offense
will
have
a completely
different
look
if freshman
Stephen
Morris
starts
at quarterback
in place
of an
injured
Jacory
Harris,
who
suffered
a concussion
last
week
at Virginia.
In this
case
the
offensive
playbook
likely
gets
scaled
back.
The
running
game
will
be important
and
Miami
has
four
different
ball
carriers
that
are
capable
of doing
some
damage.
Maryland
doesn't
match
up well
with
Miami
due
to the
overwhelming
skill
of this
Hurricane
secondary.
The
Canes
may
be vulnerable
against
the
rush
on occasion
but
the
Terps
have
shown
no sign
of life
in the
ground
attack.
The
Terps
have
not
beaten
anyone
with
a winning
record
since
the
opener
with
Navy.
Miami
has
their
back
against
the
wall
and
are
not
playing
well.
They
will
likely
rebound
this
week
but
not
in grand
fashion.

The
combined
record
of the
four
teams
that
beat
Air
Force
is 30-3.
So don't
let
their
record
fool
you.
Winning
the
Commander-in-Chief's
Trophy
by beating
Army
this
week
would
be a
big
step
for
the
program,
which
hasn't
won
the
trophy
since
2002.
Air
Force
has
been
riddled
with
injuries
and
is now
giving
up 264
yards
rushing
per
game...a
bad
formula
versus
Army.
Air
Force
id play
solid
defense
against
Navy
though.
Enough
so that
Midshipmen
quarterback
Ricky
Dobbs
failed
to find
the
end
zone.
The
Army
option
attack
is rolling.
Fullback
Jared
Hassin
and
quarterback
Trent
Steelman
have
been
good
enough
to rank
seventh
nationally
in rushing.
The
Army
defense
has
been
strong
and
will
be capable
of containing
this
Falcon
rushing
attack.
Air
Force
has
won
six
straight
times
at Army's
Michie
Stadium.
All
the
service
academies
run
a similar
triple-option
type
scheme.
Ergo,
expect
another
low
scoring
tight
ball
game. |

With
quarterback
Robert
Griffin
running
the
show,
the
Bears
have
shown
that
they
can
score
with
the
best
of them.
He is
responsible
for
27 of
Baylor's
35 offensive
touchdowns
this
season.
In Big
12 games
only,
Baylor
leads
the
conference
in scoring
with
40.2
points
per
outing.
Running
back
Jay
Finley
has
made
this
attack
extremely
balanced.
The
Baylor
defense
has
been
impressive
at times
and
continues
to get
better.
The
Bears
will
be severely
challenged
against
Oklahoma
State,
which
has
arguably
of the
best
trio
in the
nation
in quarterback
Brandon
Weeden,
running
back
Kendall
Hunter
and
wide
receiver
Justin
Blackmon.
With
all
the
offensive
firepower
on both
teams
this
could
easily
turn
into
a scoring
festival.
Of note...Justin
Blackmon
will
play
against
Baylor
after
serving
a one-game
suspension
following
his
arrest
for
a misdemeanor
DUI
citation.
This
is actually
a game
that
will
decide
who
is in
first
place
in the
South

Expect
a ton
of offense
by both
sides,
but
a little
more
from
the
home
team.

Despite

Quarterback
T.J.
Yates
has
been
the
answer

throwing
the
football.
His
favorite
target,
tight
end
Zack
Pianalto
has
been
lost
for
the
season
with
a knee
injury.
In the
process
has
been
the
emergence
of receiver
Dwight
Jones.
The
defense
has
recovered
from
some
staggering
personnel
losses
due
to suspensions
and
injuries.
It's
been
tough
passing
on Carolina.
Florida
State
quarterback
Christian
Ponder
will
throw
an interception
or two
against
this
secondary.
For
the
Tar
Heels
to win
they
have
to stop
the
run,
something
they
have
not
been
doing
all
year.
The
Seminoles
are
4-0
at home
this
season.
This
has
been
the
most
productive
scoring
effort
in Tallahassee
since
2001
but
that
trend
has
not
shown
up the
past
two

The
FSU
defense
has
been
remarkable
outside
of the

against
NC State
in the
second
half.
Look
for
FSU

win

Alabama
20 LSU
10
Alabama
and
its
two-headed
monster
of a
running
game
have
yet
to face
a rush
defense
like
LSU
will
employ.
The
Crimson
Tide
could
steal
the
playbook
rival
Auburn
used
to gash
LSU.
The
problem
is that
Alabama
doesn't
have
an elusive
runner
behind
center.
Quarterback
Greg
McElroy
does
more
with
his
smarts.
He will
interview
later
this
month
for
the
Rhodes
Scholarship.
Expect
to see
a heavy
does
of running
back
Mark
Ingram
in hopes
of gauging
just
how
tough
this
LSU
defense
really
is.
Receiver
Julio
Jones
needs
a big
game.
That
will
be a
difficult
chore
as one
of the
country's
top
cornerbacks,
Patrick
Peterson,
will
be locked
down
on Jones.
This
could
be a
big
day
for
Alabama's
defense,
which
has
intercepted
more
passes
than
any
team
in the
nation.
Neither
Jordan
Jefferson
nor
Jarrett
Lee
have
proved
reliable
enough
to seize
the
starting
quarterback
job
at LSU,
and
Alabama
is just
the
defense
to bring
out
the
worst
in both.
LSU
ranks
ahead
of only
Vanderbilt
among
SEC
teams
in total
offense
and
the
Tigers
are
last
in pass
offense.
As mentioned,
defense
is what
has
made
this
Tiger
team
7-1
on the
season.
They
are
capable
of shutting
down
both
the
run
and
the
pass.
The
Tide
has
won
25 times
in Baton
Rouge.
The
bye
week
did
wonders
for
the
Crimson
Tide,
as coach
Nick
Saban
said
he expects
all
of his
regulars
to be
fresh
and
at full
strength
for
the
LSU
game.
The
loser
of this
game
gets
left
out
of the
SEC
West
race.
It won't
be Alabama.

Alex

some
of the

The
Warriors
limited
Utah

Idaho

explosive

-- to
a total
of 17
points
the
past
two

They're
playing
with
aggression
and
confidence
-- giving
them
a much
different
look
than
the
defense
that
Boise
State
steamrolled
last
year
in Honolulu.
Boise
State
is balanced
though.
Take
away
one
aspect
and
they
whip
you
with
another.
The
Broncos
are
near
the
tops
nationally
in total

The
Broncos
strength
has
been
the
defensive
line,
which
might
not
have
as large
of an
impact
against
quick-firing
quarterback
Bryant
Moniz.
Outscoring
Boise

is almost
impossible
for
any
team.
Quarterback
Kellen

and
receivers
Austin
Pettis

are
rewriting
the

Doug

much

against

Boise

TCU
32 Utah

If this
is a
revenge
game,
both
have
reason
to use
it as
a motive.
Utah
got
blown
out
last
year
in Fort
Worth
and
TCU
lost
the
year
before
to the
Utes,
which
took
them
out
of the
MWC
race
and
a big
bowl
invite.
Both
teams
are
ranked
in the
Top
10.
People
think
of the
Horned
Frogs
as being
all
defense.
That
seems
to suit
QB Andy
Dalton
just
fine.
He has
quietly
put
some
average
early
season
performances
behind
him
and
is back
to running
the
TCU
offense
as well
as any
quarterback
in the
nation
right
now.
It doesn't
hurt
to have
the
league's
best
offensive
linemen
and
a set
of skilled
position
players,
either.
RB Ed
Wesley
has
emerged
as a
possible
MWC
Offensive
Player
of the
Year.
But
yes,
this
defense
leads
the
nation.
In the
last
five
conference
games,
TCU
has
allowed
only
two
touchdowns.
Utah
quarterback
Jordan
Wynn
will
have
to be
smart.
Big
plays
are
hard
to come
by against
TCU.
Let
running
backs
Eddie
Wide
and
Matt
Asiata
take
most
of the
heat
and
stay
out
of third
and
long
situations.
Two
of the
nation's
best
punt
returners
will
be on
stage.
For
Utah,
Shaky
Smithson
continues
to lead
the
nation
in return
average.
For
TCU,
Jeremy
Kerley
has
proven
over
the
long
haul
to be
All-America
caliber.
While
Utah
has
21 consecutive
home
victories,
TCU
has
21 consecutive
regular
season
wins.
The
home
field
advantage
is the
best
Utah
can
find.
While
their
game
is solid
it doesn't
compare
on paper
to the
Horned
Frogs.
All
things
even
in the
turnover/penalty
battle
and
TCU
is double-digit
points
better
with
a veteran
QB.

Dissection

performance

Vanderbilt.
His
problem...top
receiver
Greg
Childs
has
been

with
a patellar

injury.
The
running
game
has
been
getting
better
but
is still
a far
cry
from

able
to keep
this
Carolina

on its
heels.
The
strength
of the
defense
is at
linebacker
with
Jerico
Nelson
and
Jerry
Franklin.
They
have
their
hands
full
and
can
be neutralized
with
the
running
prowess
of Gamecock
super
frosh
Marcus
Lattimore,
who
is coming
off
a 103
yard
encounter
against
Tennessee.
Quarterback
Stephen
Garcia
has
been
more
than
efficient
(ranks
fifth
nationally
in passing
efficiency).
His
receiver
combo
of Alshon
Jeffery
and
Tori
Gurley
has
made
life
much
easier
playing
top
billing
in a
Steve
Spurrier
offense.
But
it's
Lattimore
who
has
been
the
big
reason
for
winning
games.
The
Gamecocks
continue
to be
sensational
against
the
run
but
pathetic
against
the
pass.
HELLO,
that
is a
problem
this
week.
Starting
cornerback
Chris
Culliver
suffered
a torn
pectoral
muscle
last
week
and
has
been
lost
for
the
season
while
Stephen
Garcia
on the
other
side
has
been
in a
slump.
Ironically,
this
is still
the
nation's
No.
2 ranked
team
at producing
sacks.
They
need
pressure
big
time
this
week.
Look
for
South
Carolina
to use
Lattimore,
eat
up the
clock
and
keep
Mallett
off
the
field,
which
leads
to a
much
less
scoring
affair
than
some
might
believe.
Gamecocks
have
been
real
tough
at home
but
Arkansas
can
win
this
game

nation's
worst
pass
defense.
The
Sooners
will
employ
a much
faster
set
of skill
people
on defense.
Two
true
freshmen
will
be guarding
the
new
Tannehill
too.
The
inexperience
factor
got
more
complicated
this
week,
as running
back
Christine
Michael
has
been
lost
for
the
season
with
a broken
tibia.
The
Sooners
are
due
to overcome
their
road
woes.
This
week
could
be the
time.

Stanford
31 Arizona
17
Arizona
is in
a better
position
at quarterback
now
that
Matt
Scott
has
proven
he can
handle
the
job.
But
it is
good
news
that
starter
Nick
Foles
is expected
to be
back
in the
lineup
this
week
due
to his
accuracy
and
late-game
abilities.
The
Wildcats
have
also
been
mixing
in the
run
much
more
as Keola
Antolin
takes
more
of the
load
out
of the
backfield.
The
Arizona
strength
is on
the
defensive
line,
notably
with
senior
ends
Ricky
Elmore
and
Brooks
Reed.
This
makes
for
a granddaddy
match
up against
a Stanford
offensive
line
that
has
allowed
only
three
sacks
all
year.
Part
of that
has
to do
with
Stanford’s
great
offensive
line;
part
of it
is QB
Andrew
Luck
is very
elusive
and
part
of it
is the
concern
about
Stanford's
power
running
game.
Arizona
was
so intent
on stopping
Stanford's
running
game
last
season
that
it opened
up the
passing
lanes
for
Luck,
who
threw
for
423
yards.
USC
and
Oregon
went
up and
down
the
field
on the
Cardinal
and
teams
have
had
success
throwing
on this
secondary.
This
is a
major
battle
for
second
place
in the
Pac
Ten
and
an inside
track
to a
BCS
game.
The
quarterback
with
the
best
game
will
probably
win.
Look
for
that
to be
Andrew
Luck
with
another
season
under
his
belt
and
the
fact
Foles
in coming
off
of an
injury.
Had
this
game
been
in Tucson,
the
Cats
could
win.
