XFL announced on October 31, 2022 team names and logos for the eight teams which will play during the 2023 season, scheduled to begin on February 18. Helmet designs and uniforms were introduced on December 7, 2022. A non-symmetric design was introduced for the Houston Roughnecks; below is a depiction of the right side of this design.
XFL's inaugural 2020 season was ended prematurely by the global Covid-19 pandemic after five weeks of play (twenty total games were played). Thereafter the league filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in April 2020 and its assets were eventually sold to new ownership.
