Comments
Texas Southern and Southern U. are using new helmet designs in 2012 (shown above), while Alcorn State has returned to the plain gold helmets last used by the team in 2010.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff is also using a new helmet design in 2012. The helmets remain black but have a new version of the team's "lion head" logo (photograph below). I will need a copy of the new helmet logo in order to add the new helmet to the web site.

Alcorn State apparently used a "spear" decal (similar to what Florida State uses) at one time, and many years ago the team used a "feather" logo (like the one on the old Washington Redskins helmet, which ran over the top of the helmet shell).
From 2005 through 2007, the team used a helmet logo similar to the one used in 2003 and 2004, but with the word "ALCORN" larger relative to the "A", and with the colors different from the earlier version. I will need a copy of the helmet logo in order to add this historical helmet to the web site (I have received MANY similar logos that all differ slightly from the one used on the helmet - please note that I need the logo worn on the football helmets from 2005 through 2007!) Below is a close-up photograph of part of this helmet logo; please note the white outline around the "A" and the dark outlines and "drop shadow" on the letters in "ALCORN".
*1 Alcorn State began using a helmet decal after an unknown number of games in 2003, but by at least the October 25th game at Southern University.

After beginning the 2007 season with plain gold helmets, UAPB added a new helmet logo by at least game #5 at New Mexico State. The new logo was the team name "Golden Lions" in white letters with black outlines, as you may see in the photo below. I would appreciate a copy of the helmet logo for this one.

Grambling State has apparently always used black helmets shells during the period covered by this web site (1960 to present). The oval "G" logo was apparently first used in approximately 1974, and is the only helmet logo ever used by the team (though the shape of the G has changed slightly through the years). The team probably used plain black helmets without stripes during at least some years in the 1960s, and some photographs suggest that some helmets had a single white or yellow stripe at the same time when others had a single red stripe or no stripes.

This team used several helmet logos durign the early 2000s; I would love to add some of these historical helmets to the web site, but I will need copies of these decals in order to do so. Below are photos of some of these helmets:
Jackson State was using plain white helmets during their first few games of the 2003 season, with the exception of game #3 against Tennessee State on September 13. During this game, at least some of the JSU players were wearing an unusually small decal that I cannot identify from the one photograph I have received showing it (shown here), but which is probably a "tiger head" of some sort. I would appreciate some larger and clearer photographs than this one.
During the 2002 season, Jackson State used the helmet design shown in the photograph here; I would appreciate a copy of the logo used on this helmet, so that I may add this one to the site.
In 2004 Jackson State was using a new helmet logo, a blue and white tiger head which you can see in the photo below. I would greatly appreciate a copy of the artwork for this helmet decal so that I may add this one to the web site (several people have sent me a logo that does not match this one - please examine the photo closely before sending me anything!). Photographs from the 2005 season show that this design was still being used by the team.

In 2001, MVSU used white helmets with an oval-shaped logo that I believe was used only during that season; shown below is the best photograph I have received of that helmet design. I would appreciate a copy of the logo used on this helmet.

The 1997 Prairie View helmet featured a gold shell and purple facemask, and a logo on the sides that included a circle with the school's name along its outer edge, and a black, leaping panther in the middle of the circle. I have received a good copy of this decal, and could add this helmet to the site if I could get a decent photograph of one of the actual 1997 helmets.

*1 This design was adopted beginning at an unknown point during the 2010 season; it was in use during at least the team's last three games, played on November 11 (vs Grambling State), November 20 (vs Arkansas-Pine Bluff), and December 11 (vs Alabama State in the SWAC championship game at Birmingham, AL).
