Comments

Culver-Stockton and MidAmerica Nazarene have new helmet designs in 2009 (shown above), and Evangel has returned to the design last used by that team in 2009.

Baker changed helmet designs for the 2008 season. The new helmets appear to be either black or very dark blue (I think black is more likely), and feature a decal with the word "CATS" in orange letters. I would appreciate a copy of the helmet logo used on this one. I do not know if this design is still in use in 2009.

Missouri Valley apparently switched to a new helmet logo in 2007 (or perhaps much earlier, I have received hardly any information for this team through the years). The current helmet logo is a "viking head" in front of a larger "V"; below is a photograph of this one. Once again, a copy of the helmet logo is needed in order to add this helmet to the web site.

I have received little information about historical helmets for these teams, with the exception of Culver-Stockton; additional information would be appreciated.

Historical Helmets

AVILA

2001 2002 - 2004? 2002 - 2004?
2005 -

2001 was Avila's first season of varsity football. The block "A" logo shown on the first helmet above was worn on both sides of the helmet in 2001. In 2002, the "AU" logo shown on the second helmet was worn on only the right sides, while players' uniform numerals were worn on the left sides.

I had received a report prior to the 2003 season that Avila would be using a new helmet logo, but I never did receive confirmation of this once the season started. It was also reported that the "AU" logo worn on the right sides of the helmets during at least some games in 2003 had a gold outline around it, but it is unclear when this outline was added. Photographs from the 2004 season showed that this design was still in place that year ("AU" on the right sides, numerals on the left sides).

It was reported to me prior to the start of the 2005 season that the team would be switching to purple helmets with an "AU" logo on the sides, but all photographs that I have seen from actual games in 2005 and 2006 show the last helmet design shown above in use. Was the purple "AU" helmet ever used during a football game?

BAKER

1994 - ? ? - 2003 2004
2005 - 2007 2008 -

From 2005 through 2007, Baker used the helmet design shown in the photograph below. The helmet logo may be identical to the 2008 one, but its color is different. Several people have sent me a logo which is not quite the same as the one used on the helmets - there were differences in the size of the "C" relative to the other letters, and to the underline beneath the letters.

The miniscule photograph below is said to be of the 1993 Baker helmet, which appears to be black with what may be an orange "BU" logo.

BENEDICTINE

CENTRAL METHODIST

? - 2001 2002 - 2007 2008 -

According to reports that I have received, Central Methodist used plain white helmets in 1972 with no stripes or logos; in 1973, a stripe and an eagle logo of unknown color(s) were added to the white helmets.

1999 - 2001 2002 - 2005 2006 - 2008
2009 -

Here are descriptions of some of the "missing" helmets:

Photographs of some of these may be seen below; I would appreciate clearer photographs for any of these:

*1 In 1978 amd 1979, a "C" decal was worn on the right side of each helmet, and an "S" on the left side; in 1980, both letters were worn on both sides. It appears that the 1979 decals were recycled for 1980 - photographs show some variation in the placement of the "C" relative to the "S" in 1980 (so the two letters were apparently seperate, rather than being combined onto one decal). Some players apparently used white facemasks in 1980.
