Northwestern is using a new helmet design in 2009 (shown above).

CONCORDIA

2001 - 2002? (some games) 2001? - 2004 (most games) 2005 -

Concordia used the helmet design with the white "CU" logo apparently more often than not during the last few years, but I have seen photographs from some games during at least the 2001 and 2002 seasons in which the helmets were "blank". I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can clarify specifically when the decals were used and not used.

The helmet design used during at least 1974 and 1975 has been described as featuring white shells with a "C that was formed with broken squares in blue". The team apparently used plain white helmets for a while in 1976 until American flag decals were added to the sides.

*1 It is unclear to me whether Dana ever actually used this design in 2004. I received information from the college prior to the 2004 season indicating that this design would be used by the team, but the only photographs I saw from any of the team's actual games showed the next helmet (with stripes) being used. Additional information would be appreciated.

Midland Lutheran was using a new helmet logo in 2005; I need a copy of the logo artwork in order to draw this helmet. Below is a rather poor photo from 2005 (a close look will show that this is not the same as the logo on the helmet labelled "2001-2004" above; the word "WARRIORS" is absent from this version):

*1 MLC used these plain white helmets for at least one or two games during 2000. I believe the team has also recently used a version of its current helmet logo with the colors reversed (orange "WARRIORS" with a black outline).

MORNINGSIDE

c.late 1980s - 1994? 1995 - 1997 1998 - 2000; 2002 -

Morningside did not field a football team in 2001. The team returned in 2002 as an NAIA independent team, before joining the GPAC the following year. Prior to 2001, Morningside was a member of the NCAA Division II North Central Conference for many years; the team was known as the "Maroon Chiefs" prior to 1998.

I have received contradictory information about some of the earlier helmet designs used by this team. One person (many years ago) reported that from 1992 to 1994, the team used the first helmet design shown above, but it now appears that this design was apparently in use several years earlier, perhaps as early as 1988. This person also reported that in 1991 and earlier seasons, Morningside used silver helmets with black facemasks, a black-white-black set of stripes, and an "M" logo in black that was similar to that on the second helmet above - this report now appears false, and no supporting photographs have ever been received showing such a design in use. A second person has reported that the team never used black as a helmet color to any substantial degree. During the mid-1980s the team apparently used maroon helmets with a logo consisting of a large "M" with the word "Chiefs" across it, and still earlier (c.1980) a design featuring a circle containing an "M" with some attached feathers was in use.

*1 Nebraska Wesleyan switched to this design when the college changed the names of its athletic teams from "Plainsmen" to "Prairie Wolves"; this occurred about (I think) midway through the 2000 season. It was incorrectly reported to me earlier that the helmet design was changed at halftime of the team's homecoming game that year; while the new nickname and logo were introduced at halftime, the new helmet design was not used until the following week. (I would greatly appreciate a photograph of this helmet!)
