Offensive
Line / Return Game |
The
offensive line was considered
to be somewhat of a project
heading into 2012 but
performed well in most
games giving Klein plenty
of pass protection. Everyone
is back again and this
really bodes well for
the development of the
new man behind center.
This is the nation's No.
1 punt return unit and
kick return unit thanks
to Tyler Lockett and Tramaine
Thompson. |

|
Quarterback
/ Defense |
Heisman
finalist Collin Klein
has finally moved on.
The battle to replace
him involves some legit
talents but there is no
erasing what Klein meant
to this team. The defense
will be in complete rebuilding
phase. The loses on this
side of the ball are extremely
heavy and a big reason
KSU takes a drop in the
polls. |

QUICK
TAKES |
12/30/12
- The
obvious Manhattan monster question
is who will spell Collin Klein at
quarterback? Will it be new JUCO
commitment Jake Waters, the NJCAA
Offensive Player of the Year? Waters
is considered to be the No. 1 pro-style
JUCO quarterback in the nation.
Or will it be Daniel Sams, the all-purpose
runner, thrower, receiver who was
the best high school offensive player
to come out of the New Orleans in
2010? Expect a very heated battle
with the ripples of the outcome
to reach far and wide as to how
far the Cats can travel next season.
- Receiver
Tyler Lockett is a burner who can
get loose downfield and Tramaine
Thompson can run too. The deep ball
option will be alive and well.
- The
KSU rushing stats were bolstered
by Klein running with the ball.
Senior John Hubert tapered off down
the 2012 stretch but he will bring
a much-needed degree of experience
to this young backfield. Outside
of Hubert, experienced ball carriers
are slim.
- Some
might be wondering just how Kansas
State could fall completely out
of a Top 25 poll already for next
year. Well, they might not depending
on the poll. But they certainly
will tumble out of the Top 10 based
mostly on the huge personnel losses
that include Heisman finalist Collin
Klein and maybe even more important
a gutted defense.
- Teams
just don't lose All-Conference talents
like Adam Davis, Meshak Williams,
Arthur Brown and Nigel Malone without
taking a drop-off. With only three
starters set to return on defense
getting an encore Top 10 performance
isn't likely. KSU just graduated
a tremendous senior class.
- Coaches
will be looking for two new starting
cornerbacks outside of making nickel
back Randall Evans a full time starter.
Ty Zimmerman is an All-American
performer that needs to come back
healthy for his senior year after
being lost with a leg injury in
early November.
