Defensive
Backfield / Passing
Game |
Despite
losing All-American
cornerback
Jordan Poyer
this defensive
backfield
will remain
formidable.
Rashaad
Reynolds
will no
longer play
under Poyer's
shadow while
becoming
one of the
league's
best covermen.
They will
also get
plenty of
help from
the speed
burners
at outside
linebacker.
There may
not be a
better dual-quarterback
system in
college
football.
Mannion
and Vaz
made it
work some
how and
the battle/partnership
marches
on. |

Defensive
Tackle / Running
Game |
Power
running
teams like
Stanford
have given
this defensive
front problems.
Nonetheless,
Oregon State
made great
strides
in constructing
a run descent
stuffing
defense.
Both full-time
tackles
need replaced
which takes
coaches
back to
the drawing
board. This
was a meager
rushing
attack.
The entire
stable of
running
backs will
be around
again for
2013. It's
time to
step up.

DEPTH CHARTS were
only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players
that departed and players
that received the most
playing experience (consistent
starters). NationalChamps.net
recognizes the importance
of missing personnel data
not listed such as redshirts,
transfers, injuries, incoming
recruits, back ups and
alternates. Their coverage
will begin with our full
2013 Preseason Preview
due out this coming spring.

QUICK
TAKES |
12/18/12
- The
Beavers have made
great efforts to be
a more balanced offense.
The end result from
2012 wasn't so successful
in regards to running
with the football.
Running backs Storm
Woods and Terron Ward
are capable of making
this formula work
much better in 2013.
- Success
has been found in
the passing game with
a dual quarterback
situation. The Pac
12's No. 2 ranked
passing game will
continue to have both
Sean Mannion and Cody
Vaz battling for reps
through the spring.
- Gone
is school record holder
for career receptions
Markus Wheaton. In
steps the next great
OSU receiver Brandin
Cooks, who spent much
time his true freshman
campaign filling in
for James Rogers.
- The
Beavers leave their
cornerbacks in man-to-man
coverage most of the
time, and a key this
season has been not
only how well senior
Jordan Poyer has played
on one side but what
Rashaad Reynolds did
as the other cornerback.
Losing the All-American
Poyer will sting but
don't underestimate
this secondary. There
is plenty of potential
here to keep opposing
quarterbacks in check.
- The
defensive perimeter
is sound. Outside
linebackers Michael
Doctor and D.J. Alexander
are two of the fastest
players at their position
in college football.
Defensive end Scott
Crichton is an All-Conference
sack monster.
- The
Beavers may have been
one of the biggest
surprises in 2012.
They weren't capable
of hanging with the
big boys in the league
like Stanford and
Oregon and they probably
still won't next season.
But there is enough
talent returning to
maintain their current
BCS Poll lofty status.
No more surprises
here.
