KEY LOSSES
OFFENSE: Martel Moore-WR, Perez Ashford-WR, Jason Schepler-TE
DEFENSE: Alan Baxter-DE, Nabal Jefferson-DT, Sean Progar-DE, Victor Jacques-MLB, Tyrone Clark-OLB, Rashaan Melvin-CB, Demetrius Stone-SS, Ryan Neir-P
QB Jordan Lynch
Quarterback / Offensive Line

The Jordan Lynch running and passing broken record is playing again. The melody is good enough to get NIU back into BCS bowl discussions. The offensive line will be a year older and better. They don't lose anybody.

Defensive Line

The run defense is suspect. Luckily NIU plays in a pass-oriented conference but losing big time bookends Alan Baxter and Sean Progar will take the bite out the Husky defense.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2013 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK TAKES

1/8/13

Northern Illinois will still be the team to beat in the Mid-American Conference. Quarterback Jordan Lynch alone would make sure of that. The Huskies are going to bring back a great deal of experience but some of the losses are key All-Conference players, especially on defense. As the Orange Bowl loss to Florida State demonstrated, NIU is not ready to compete with the big dogs. But teams from this conference are no slouch at mixing it up with BCS-aligned conference teams. So it's really not so far fetched to believe this 2013 team can get back to a BCS bowl with the current rules in place...a Top 16 finish might be all that is required again. And that is doable.
