Receiver
/ Defensive Front |
This
spread offense
has been
distributing
the football
to many
different
wide receivers.
They all
return for
2013. Donte
Moncrief
will be
one of the
SEC's premier
offensive
targets.
The defense
is getting
better up
front. This
was the
SEC's 2nd
ranked sack
and TFL
unit and
the rushing
numbers
for opponents
keep coming
down. |
|
|
Tight
End / Secondary |
The
tight end
gets used
in this
spread offense.
Ole Miss
doesn't
have any
heading
into 2013.
Plenty of
experience
will be
available
in this
secondary.
The problem
is this
unit has
to learn
how to cover
somebody,
especially
late in
games with
the outcome
on the line.

DEPTH CHARTS were
only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players
that departed and players
that received the most
playing experience (consistent
starters). NationalChamps.net
recognizes the importance
of missing personnel data
not listed such as redshirts,
transfers, injuries, incoming
recruits, back ups and
alternates. Their coverage
will begin with our full
2013 Preseason Preview
due out this coming spring.

QUICK
TAKES |
12/18/12
- Quarterback
Bo Wallace, who was
declared as the starter
only two days before
the 2012 opener, has
really taken some
big strides. Sure
there have been some
struggles, in particular
a SEC-high 15 interceptions,
but Wallace has become
an established signal
caller in the second
half of the season
demonstrating that
he can lead the Rebels
in big moments.
- Wallace
has a big time playmaker
in receiver Donte
Moncrief who has picked
apart SEC cornerbacks.
Defenses won't be
able to double up
on Moncrief as every
single receiver gets
welcomed back to the
fold. Senior Ja-Mes
Logan is another receiver
primed for a stellar
campaign.
- This
spread-option read
offense will only
get better. Leading
rusher Jeff Scott
will return and is
very good in space.
Wallace is also pretty
handy with his feet
having posted eight
rushing touchdowns
on his own.
- New
defensive coordinator
Dave Wommack made
some great improvements
to the SEC's worst
run defense from 2011
by mixing up schemes
and rotating a ton
of defensive linemen.
With many of those
same players back
hopes are they can
keep on improving.
- Defending
the pass is where
things get dicey as
breakdowns in the
secondary have led
to some disappointing
losses. Some talent
exists, especially
at safety, but the
corners have been
ravaged by injuries.
For Ole Miss to finish
next season ranked
they will have to
come up with some
answers in this backfield.
- Here
is the annual NationalChamps.net
Dark Horse Pick for
2013, which always
leaves quite a few
readers scratching
their head and calling
us names. Ole Miss
competes in the SEC
so, NO, the Rebels
aren't going to be
competing for a post-season
trip to Atlanta. Out
of everyone we evaluated
from the current 2012
BCS Poll Top 75 teams,
nobody else brings
back 20 starters.
But what sells the
Rebels wasn't their
big win over in-state
rival Mississippi
State in the Egg Bowl
finale or the fact
they return so many
starters. This is
about the way Ole
Miss hung tough versus
top SEC competition.
Both Texas A&M
and LSU were more
than happy to come
out victorious against
the Rebels by less
than a touchdown.
- Head
coach Huge Freeze
on making a bowl game
in his first season,
"It validates
the process we're
on and the journey
we're on is on the
right track. The excitement
around the program
seems to be catching
on with recruits and
their families. I
think the way we played
every game except
for maybe the second
half of the Georgia
game we were very
competitive."
