OUTLOOK
If the college football world
thought TCU has been peaking
lately as one of the nation's
toughest teams, get ready (you
BCS Buster advocates) because
the Horned Frogs are stacking
up to be just as good in their
2010 follow up act. Sure, a
few key players will be moving
on - such as sack master Jerry
Hughes, two All-MWC cornerbacks
and a top flight running back
in Joseph Turner - but those
left garner their own accolades.
Nine returning players were
tabbed All-Conference, and that
is a hefty total. This No. 6
ranking would give TCU their
highest preseason ranking in
school history according to
AP Polls of the past and the
next highest since their debut
at No. 8 in 1958. Great teams
usually start with a great QB,
and in Fort Worth, nothing changes
with senior Andy Dalton behind
center. Coach Gary Patterson
has sustained his legacy here
via superb defensive play. The
nation's No. 1 ranked total
defense returns more talent
than in any prior season. Just
like Boise State, this team
has been making bigtime mid-major
noise for almost a decade now.
Looking at the upcoming schedule,
there is no one TCU cannot beat.
Granted the Mountain West Conference
is proving to be somewhat competitive
with especially strong BYU and
Utah in the mix, but no one
on their non-conference list
will be favored to beat the
Frogs. The opener in Arlington
against Oregon State will carry
a long way seeing this will
be the toughest challenge. Beat
the Beavers and the Frogs are
in the thick of the national
championship race before Labor
Day even gets here.
