OUTLOOK
Is Georgia going to be better
than the 8-5 team they were
in 2009? Yes, if a new quarterback
can perform...and that is a
big if. And the upcoming season
better spell more wins, or this
coaching staff - under the ten-year
direction of Mark Richt - will
be in for some major heat. Too
much talent and experience exists
to fall anything short of eight
or nine wins. The offense only
loses one player, albeit the
QB who has dragged down production/point
efforts. The battle to replace
the underachieving Joe Cox includes
two former prep All-Americans;
each one was labeled as one
of the ten best at his position
coming out of high school. Only
one of them has ever taken a
snap at the collegiate level
(Logan Gray) and no returning
player has ever started here.
Redshirt freshman Aaron Murray
has been given the early nod.
Murray was the Rivals.com No.
3 rated quarterback in the nation
out of Plant HS in Tampa where
he was named Mr. Florida Football
in his junior prep season. He
will at least have a NationalChamps.net
First Team Preseason All-American
at his disposal in receiver
A.J. Green. Moreover, at some
point (leading up to) next season,
one of these ball carriers has
to step up and take over as
the primary running back. Four
different players in this backfield
were labeled as starters at
different points of '09. The
OL, returning intact, is shaping
up to be one of the best groups
that Georgia has fielded in
a long time. Some questions
will exist on the defensive
side. The nation's 90th ranked
pass efficiency defense has
to get better, and the defensive
tackles are both new to starting.
Bottom line, no matter which
young signal caller starts;
there is no reason why this
offense should struggle, much
the same, as no reason exists
why a meager win total should
again follow. The upcoming campaign
comes at a crucial juncture
for this coaching staff. Under
the alums collective breath,
you can hear, “get better
or let someone else give it
a try”. The talent and
experience is good enough to
win now.
