2010 OUTLOOK
The Huskies have only been a part of the FBS (formerly Division I-A) since 2002. This is the year they hope to shed the "fledgling" status and make their mark as a legit BCS contender. With 17 starters returning and an extremely strong finish of four straight victories to close out 2009, UConn is on the verge of winning the Big East outright. Not that they haven't come close yet, but this year the offense in particular seems to be more settled than at any time. There is a clear-cut leader at quarterback in senior Zach Frazer and a capable backup in Cody Endres, who started six games last fall. Both seem to have a steady grasp of this no-huddle system although cutting back on the interceptions will be a must for this team to take the next step. Overall, nine starters return from an offense that averaged 387.2 yards per game. Running back Jordan Todman is set to take the national stage. He led the team in rushing while eclipsing the 1,000-yard barrier all while splitting time with the now departed Andre Dixon. Four starting offensive lineman are back to pave the way led by First Team All-Big East guard Zach Hurd. The main concern is replacing the top two pass catchers.

Eight starters are back on defense and are led by a pair of fourth-year starters at linebacker in Scott Lutrus and NationalChamps.net First Team Preseason All-American Lawrence Wilson who racked up an astounding 140 tackles a year ago. Greg Lloyd was another All-Big East linebacker in '09, but a knee injury in the 11th game that required surgery has forced his move to defensive end. Getting Lloyd back to full health may not be an option. While there is experience up front on the defensive line they need to find someone to take over the major sack production of the departed Lindsey Witten. If the team has a major concern, it is in the secondary. The Big East's worst pass defense also lost their two big interception artists. This is the one area coaches will hold their breath on and could be the deciding factor as to whether all this talent can finally get them over the hump.

UConn has more depth, size and speed (other than in the secondary) than at any other time of the Edsall era. The home schedule is a major plus and 2010 looks like the Huskies best shot to win their first outright Big East title.
