Quarterback / Defensive Line

QB Jacory Harris did a good bit of developing/maturing this past season. He is, at the least, the best QB the Canes have possessed in a long time. The DL is extremely deep; fresh legs will only make these big men that much quicker.

Offensive Line

Protecting the QB has been a problem. This could be a real sore spot if coaches do not secure a newly rebuilt front wall. There are plenty of holes, from tight end to tackle.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2010 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK ANALYSIS

12/8/09
The Hurricanes finally started to show some signs of getting back to the good ole days in head coach Randy Shannon's third year at the helm. It's the most promise shown since the 2005 season. At the same time, Miami also demonstrated they are just as susceptible to the ACC “inconsistency bug” as any other team in the league. They will have some work to do this off-season along the offensive line, but that is somewhat offset since there is a large contingent of skill position talent on this side. Jacory Harris needs to cut back on the interceptions, but he has demonstrated that he can be the piece of the puzzle that has been missing for so long in terms of QB play and offensive leadership. The defense is shaping up to be what most people have come to expect – fast and strong, and the Sunshine State’s hot bed of high school talent affords the Canes plenty of quickness and depth, especially from the local prospects. Despite recent drop-off in results, recruiting at ‘The U’ has still been strong. Still, starting Miami out as a Top 10 team may be a bit of a stretch. Depending on the spring, they will likely hit the major polls somewhere between here and not too far behind. One thing appears certain; they are no longer a team missing from the preseason Top 25, the road they have traveled for a few years now. This program is getting better, and that should scare those who have gotten used to a tropical storm-strength Miami.
