Quarterback / Receiver

QB Ryan Mallett looks to be everything he was cracked up to be...a pocket presence with a beautiful touch. He is just what Dr. Petrino ordered. In the process, the receivers are now starting to put up worthy numbers.

Secondary

The SEC's worst pass defense has to secure much better play from the people responsible for putting up those lousy numbers. The Razorbacks go nowhere until this unit is repaired/revamped.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2010 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK ANALYSIS

12/8/09
What a major difference two years have made in Fayetteville under the direction of head coach Bobby Petrino. Arkansas went from being nothing more than a prograssive rushing offense, quarterback included, to one of the most legitimate passing threats in the SEC. And they’ve even got themselves a Heisman-level passer. In turn, the guys catching the passes - like two-time All-SEC selection D.J. Williams at tight end and Joe Adams at receiver - have reaped the benefits. The big difference is QB Mallett, though. His deep ball touch and ability to run this offense is only going to get better with time. The OL looks sturdy, and the RBs are still talented and deep. The only problem holding this team back from earning higher-level national respect is the secondary. Like on many pass-oriented teams, for some strange reason, being a leader in scoring offense also equates to being near the bottom in scoring defense. Such is the case for this defense. Stars are short in this defensive backfield, but that does not mean they are missing able bodies back here. With some improvement to this unit, Arkansas could be primed to make some serious upset noise in the SEC.
