Quarterback/Running Back

Mike Hart and Chad Henne say it all. Both seniors-to-be have seen a ton of big time games in a big time atmosphere. This is their year.

Linebacker

The team's top two tacklers, Harris and Burgess, will move on. Woodley played some LB during his career, but he too will go. Experience behind them is short, though talent exists.

RB Mike Hart

DT Alan Branch

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2007 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK ANALYSIS

For the past couple of seasons, since QB Chad Henne took over the starting duties as a freshman, Michigan has somewhat underachieved, and head coach Lloyd Carr has started to catch some flack from the Big Blue supporters. ‘06 changed everything as top players like RB Mike Hart finally had a healthy campaign. Mario Manningham, despite missing several games with injury, could easily be considered one of the country’s top pass catchers heading into next season. Michigan will continue to boast a steady group of hulks on the OL. Should long time starter OT Jake Long (2006 Big 10 Top Offensive Lineman) decide to return for another season in Ann Arbor and block for their combination of offensive skill weapons, the balance will be next to impossible to contend with. The nation's No. 1 rated rushing defense will be bolstered by huge All-Big Ten DT Alan Branch (6-6, 331 pounds). Butkus candidate David Harris will depart, as does Burgess, leaving a couple of gaps to be filled within the LB unit. The secondary started out strong in 2006 but by season's end left a few questions marks with coverage issues. The secondary is full of experienced talent and should prove to be a defensive strength this time around. Next fall will have Michigan playing second fiddle to few across the county. Ultimately, this highly rated prediction is based on their balanced offensive attack – that is, assuming Henne, Hart and Manningham remain healthy. It's their time to shine in big ways.
