* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic gauge for listing players that departed and players that received the most playing experience (consistent starters). NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers, injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates. Their coverage will begin with our full 2006 Preseason Preview due out this coming spring.

QUICK ANALYSIS

How does Tech do it every year? Mike Leach will again replace one of the nation’s best QBs (Hodges) with an up-and-coming star (Graham Harrell) for awing results. Harrell’s prep numbers rank him sixth nationally in career yards and third all-time for career TDs, and if history is any guide, the system at TT will quickly vault his talents onto the national collegiate stage (also runs a 4.7-sec 40). Talent at WR returns, and new starter Shannon Woods at TB means two new sophomores will well-pace the backfield as talent positions again thrive. Tech needs to balance their offense like Boise State has, or a decent pass defense will again be all foes need to compete with this offensive juggernaut. Senior leadership on both lines looks great, so woes in the run-stuffing department can be improved. Those leaving the Red Raiders’ top 10 secondary will surely be missed. UTEP and TCU are ambitious non-cons to slate. Ironically, just like the Longhorns were constantly coming up short with the Sooners, TT has to overcome division-mate Texas before even considering where they land nationally. With OU and A&M in the same Big XII half, coming in second again in the South division isn’t anything of which to be ashamed. Always a bride’s maid, but never a bride…yet still competitive and fun to watch week-in, week-out, regardless.
