* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players that
received the most playing experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing
personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers,
injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with our full 2006 Preseason
Preview due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS
|
Thank
goodness WR Calvin Johnson is still one year removed
from being able to announce for the NFL. The Reggie
Ball-to-Johnson combination has another year for
presenting problems to top rated defenses. Whenever
the Yellow Jackets need a big play, they seem
to get it with this duo. But now is the time for
Reggie Ball to play like a veteran in his fourth
year of starting. While he is still beating teams
with his feet, his accuracy and decision making
when throwing the football needs to improve by
a landslide before Tech can actually be considered
a threat to win their (Coastal) division. Missing
will be the efforts of TB P.J. Daniels, who proved
to be a big difference. At least the OL returns
four out of five, giving TB Tashard Choice a legit
chance to make waves and better his six-touchdown
sophomore effort. The success of ‘05 was
built around the defense. And while still maintaining
a fairly decent amount of experience, some of
the heavy hitters move on, including a great rush
end, a top tackler at LB and some quality numbers
in the secondary. The inside of the DL remains
sturdy, and thus, opponents will opt to test the
Yellow Jackets through the air. Inconsistency
is a key word in the new 12-team ACC, and GT is
no exception. Losing a game to Virginia and turning
around to knock Miami out of a BCS bowl seems
to be par for the course. Don't expect to see
much of a change in this regard. Head coach Chan
Gailey will be operating with some veteran offensive
firepower this time around, but improvements at
QB are a must for Tech to go further.
