PLAYER: QB Willie Tuitama

NEWCOMER: TE Brandyn McCall
STRENGTH:
QB Willie Tuitama was quite a surprise last season
after moving from a possible redshirt/scout team
season to becoming a heralded freshman…his
athletic ability with a year under his belt now
gives Arizona a ray of hope; Not only is the jest
of the OL back again, but so are the No. 2 guys…for
the first time since Coach Stoops arrived, the
Cats have a chance to put two offensive lines
on the field filled with quality players.
CONCERN:
Depth at QB should young Tuitama struggle; Replacing
RB Mike Bell and his 1,200 yards of total offense
will be the main focus…backup Gilbert Harris
has also departed…replacements have some
speed but lack any real game time exposure; The
starting WRs are underclassmen as is the TE position…the
returning leading receiver is Mike Thomas who
earned freshman All-American honors; The skill
positions are all built with youth.

DEFENSE |
BEST
PLAYER: CB Antoine Cason
TOP
NEWCOMER: CB Devin Ross
STRENGTH:
If the starters can remain healthy, the trio of
starting LBs could prove to be a huge bonus while
improving on the nation's 93rd ranked rushing
defense in 2005; The secondary is stacked even
with the loss of All-Pac Ten safety Darrell Brooks,
a great piece of the formula for playing in this
conference, Antoine Cason (a true lock to play
on Sundays) and JUCO transfer Michael Johnson
will be a huge factor in the team's overall success.
CONCERN:
With most of the starters back on the DL, this
unit has to significantly improve, no returning
player has more than two sacks, Injuries at LB;
Depth at CB with true freshman being the backups.

SPECIAL TEAMS |
KICKER
Senior Nick Holt (a four year starter) has a legitimate
NFL leg. He booted a 62-yard FG in the spring game and
is among the best in the country with his kickoffs (38
touchbacks in 53 attempts).
PUNTER
The position continues to be stocked. When the nation's
leading punter Danny Baugher (now departed) had a season-ending
injury last fall, Nick Holt (also the kicker) stepped
in and continued the process. Holt almost ended up leading
the nation in punting, falling one game short of the
minimum needed to qualify.
