Although
Alvin Pearman left, the combo of Lundy
and Johnson makes this backfield as
good as any in the ACC. We knew this
LB crew would be good for some time.
Next fall, look for them to really
peak.

Virginia
lacks a play maker in the secondary.
With Marquis Weeks moving on, the
task to locate one will be even more
difficult. Lesser QBs around the league
have found little difficulty giving
the Cavs fits.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players that
received the most playing experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing
personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers,
injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with our full 2005 Preseason
Preview due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS
|
Each
year as of late, someone in the ACC gets ranked
too high in the preseason (see Clemson in 2004).
We, too, are just as guilty of prematurely believing
what is shown on paper before the games are even
played. Virginia looks to be that team, a team
in the precarious position of likely falling from
this generous spot one-way or the other. For two
seasons now, the Cavaliers have been given the
early accolades, only to then fall on their face
when confronting tough/better competition. Charlottesville
will try again
this time with a larger contingent
of juniors and seniors as opposed to 2004's freshman
and sophomores. For Virginia to take that next
step, QB Marques Hagans has to first improve his
passing ability. Second, the receivers and DBs
need to find some playmakers. All of this is about
the same prognosis we told you last year at this
time when Virginia was granted that top 20 position.
The LBs will continue to merit high praise, led
by Butkus finalist Ahmad Brooks. Will TE Heath
Miller return for another chance at smashing more
records? Early NFL depletions could force a drop
in this ranking, but this is Coach Al Groh's best
attempt - since taking over for George Welsh -
at proving this influx of talent is finally more
than just a "paper tiger".
