The
spread offense flourished under Coach
Urban Meyer and QB Alex Smith. Not
enough credit went to the WRs. With
so many key departures, a strength
is tough to locate.

Depth
will be a concern at RB. The loss
of a few LBs can be made up with the
return of team leading tackler Spencer
Toone. The entire defense has some
holes to fill.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players that
received the most playing experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing
personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers,
injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with our full 2005 Preseason
Preview due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS
|
How
can Utah drop from a No. 6 BCS team to a preseason
No. 17 team the following year, even before Christmas,
knowing that a Heisman-caliber QB returns? Wait,
Alex Smith declared for the NFL. Maybe you have
not read the front of our presentation on "missing
the point". The likes of Utah will continue
to have the same argument placed in front of them
and it's based on competition. The real answer
from our side is that Utah loses some key players
outside of QB Alex Smith. RB Quinton Ganther will
need to continue his growing presence with Marty
Johnson moving on. The defense, too, has been
hit rather hard with graduation. Then again, Utah
is not exactly known for defensive play. None
of 2005's non-conference opponents (Arizona, Utah
State, North Carolina) will offer a challenge
defensively. LB Spencer Toone and DB Eric Weddle
will likely be preseason all-Conference favorites.
The biggest question right now is this
what
type of offensive system changes will take place
under new head coach (and former defensive coordinator)
Kyle Whittingham?
