Two
seasons ago (2003), this OL struggled
with a complete overhaul of names.
They have played together consistently
and are now the strength of this offense.
The secondary, even with the departure
of Davis, could be the SEC's best.

Quarterback,
Receiver

David
Greene is finally gone. His replacement,
D.J. Shockley, was highly touted,
but has yet to show his skills can
win games. Finding appropriate targets
will not come easy as the receivers
lack a big name with Fred Gibson now
gone.

* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players that
received the most playing experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing
personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers,
injuries, incoming recruits, back ups and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with our full 2005 Preseason
Preview due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS
|
As
it turns out, the Dawgs may have been just a hair
overrated heading into 2004 with that No. 3 AP
ranking. Injuries and suspensions took their toll
in Athens before the season actually began. A
pair of seniors on the defensive side has a decision
to make. LB Odell Thurman and FS Thomas Davis
are certain NFL talents. If both would have come
back, it could have meant another top five ranking.
Even fans outside the Peach State have heard about
D.J. Shockley, rated the top high school QB in
the country in 2000 by Super Prep. However, Shockley
has shown some thorns thus far in his career when
trying to measure up to record-setter David Greene.
As impossible as it may sound, D.J. is now a senior
and it's his time. He'll get good protection from
one of the best offensive lines in the SEC and,
barring more injuries at TB, the running game
is set to be one of the best Athens has seen for
some time. How good is TB Kregg Lumpkin? Until
he can get healthy and log some official carries
(outside of spring practice), we may never know.
Looking at the shear depth and talent, Georgia
is the early favorite to win SEC East honors.
The losses are few, but heavy hitters like David
Greene, Fred Gibson, and David Pollack seemingly
have been here forever. We'll miss them, so will
all of Georgia.
