* DEPTH CHARTS were only designed as a simplistic
gauge for listing players that departed and players that
received the most playing experience (consistent starters).
NationalChamps.net recognizes the importance of missing
personnel data not listed such as redshirts, transfers,
injuries, incoming recruits, back ups, and alternates.
Their coverage will begin with our full 2004 Preseason
Preview due out this coming spring. |

QUICK
ANALYSIS
|
Much
will change as 2004 looms in Columbus. Expecting
Maurice Clarett to again be a non-factor - quote
this: he has already played his last game as a
Buckeye - the backfield will be full of seniors
as they break in sophomore QB Justin Zwick. Expect
Zwick's adaptability to be the team's biggest
pivot. The second biggest change will entail OSU's
super run-stopping corps as only two of the front-seven
(hopefully) return. Though fourth nationally in
net punting, the 2003 return games rarely gave
Ohio Sate any field position advantages. The secondary
will be strong, so at least one building block
will be there for coach Tressel as spring ball
awaits. The offensive line, allowing over 30 sacks
and pushing for only 3.3 yards per run try, returns
only two (to be) juniors, so newbie Zwick has
his work cut out for him. WR Jenkins departs,
but Holmes should be close to his equal as the
Michigan game showed. Yet Tressel has to choose
to throw more than 42% of the time, or the Buckeye's
foes will begin to succeed where they have recently
only come close. Non-cons Marshall and (at) North
Carolina State make for early tests that will
bode well for the Big Ten slate sure to slam this
revamped group. Expect a (barely) top 20 finish
by the end, with peaks and valleys the likes of
which we haven't seen from Ohio's capital representative
in recent years.
