QUICK ANALYSIS

Surprise, Surprise...what wonders beating Florida State can do. The Tommy Bowden ship was sinking fast after a severe whopping at the hands of Wake Forest, then the light came on and Clemson went on an offensive rampage. Eight starters return from that rampage, including one of the most underrated QBs in Charlie Whitehurst. Before his career ends, Whitehurst will own almost every Clemson passing record. The receivers, as usual, contain some of the best athletes in the football world. Derrick Hamilton and Airese Currie are sure-fire All-ACC candidates for 2004. Now, if Tommy Bowden can find a way to create a consistent defense with a veteran group made of eight returning starters, the Tigers just may have something. If the front-seven on defense can find an edge, even without the services of longtime starter John Leake at LB, look out for Clemson to be one of the surprise teams. A tall order, but for all the criticism Tommy has taken, none of it can detract from him being named the ACC Coach of the Year. More to come...
